Glasstree Academic Publishing are pleased to participate in the Universities UK: The Policy Challenges for UK Research event on July 11. Speakers at this national event will lead discussions on the important policy issues facing research in universities today and the role that universities can play in helping to shape and support the emerging policy agenda. Senior Vice-President Daniel Berze will speak during the afternoon session of this event, looking specifically at Research Integrity within university settings, with special attention on the geopolitical, economic, technological and psycho-social factors influencing the rise of independent academic publishing.

With a strong focus on university policy in the years to come, Glasstree is pleased to be able to sponsor this event. As a burgeoning service for academic and scholarly publishers aiming to break free from the traditional models of publishing, Glasstree Academic Publishing is keenly aware of the situation many academics face in regard to funding their work.

Traditional Academic Publishers offer an average of 9% revenue to the authors, keeping a disproportionate amount of the proceeds for themselves. This is not only unfair, it handicaps the academic by limiting their ability to fund future scholarly work. All university funding must take into account the pricing model’s publishers impose, but Glasstree proposes breaking that model and replacing it with a fair and reasonable one.

Publishing the world over is going through swift changes with the advent and increased use of self-publishing. Academia is posed to follow suit, and on the cusp of make these great changes, must be conscious of the many financial concerns. The Policy Challenges for UK Research presents a forum for discussing these funding challenges and looking at different models for academia.

Glasstree enables academics to make a significant profit from their own work, reversing the traditional academic publishing revenue model, which typically pays authors an average of just 9% royalties, to offer 70% of the profits from sales. Its accelerated speed-to-market allows academics to publish their research in a matter of days or weeks, sharing their insights in record time.
